Robert McKirdy consolidated his position as ‘Birdie King’ of Bute Golf Club’s Winter League on Saturday when he added a brace of sub-par scores to bring his tally to 30 over 17 rounds of the stableford tournament.
Freezing overnight temperatures made scoring difficult on a frost-bound course where the low February sun added to players’ problems.
McKirdy’s leading total of a modest 35 points was matched by scratch man Graham Bolton, playing off a Winter League handicap of one.
Bolton, playing his first full round in three months, also had two birdies on his way to the best score of the day, an impressive gross 70.
