Robert McKirdy celebrated a second successive year on top of Bute Golf Club’s Winter League standings when he was presented with the McArthur Cup this week.
McKirdy retained his title with a total of 316 stableford points from his best eight scores in the competition, played at the club’s Kingarth course every week from October until the end of March.
That gave him a six-point margin of victory over runner-up John McBride, while Leighton Thomas completed the podium positions with 308 points.
David Coll and Graham McArthur led the chasing pack, each posting 304 points.
McKirdy’s victory made him only the third player in the 30-year history of the tournament to successfully defend his title, following in the footsteps of John Kernaghan in 2008 and 2009, and Andy Docherty in 2013 and 2014.
The tournament’s top three finishers received their prizes this week from sponsor Stephen Thomas of Optimize Financial Solutions; the line-up for our winners’ photograph is completed by club captain Douglas Lyle.
