Serial winners Robert McKirdy and John McBride boosted their silverware hauls last Saturday with victories in Bute Golf Club’s medal finals.
Club champion McKirdy added the Robertson Medal to four other major trophy wins this season when he led the first-class qualifiers after scoring two-over-par 70.
Birdies at the fourth hole - where he chipped in from off the green - and the eighth helped the five-handicapper recover from an unaccustomed double bogey at the second. His net 65 gave him a one-shot victory over former winner Richie More (9).
Meanwhile McBride (14) enjoyed a massive 11-shot win in the second class to land the Emslie Medal for his third major success of the season, with a score of 75 for net 61.
The highlight of his inward half of 36 was an impressive birdie three at the 14th en route to a handicap cut to 13. Richie Smith (18) was a distant runner-up with net 72.
