The penultimate qualifying round of the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League was played at Port Bannatyne Golf Club on Sunday - and the results went a long way to sorting out who will play in the tournament’s knockout stages.

Hector Whitelaw and Donald Standaloft secured qualification from League A by defeating David Driver and Sam Jamieson, while two League B pairs have also ensured thier places in the quarter-finals - Jamie Jardine and Ted McDonald, who beat holders Robert Jardine and Mark Crichton, and Gordy Macintyre and Jim Thom, who made sure of their slot with a one-hole victory against Joe Livingstone and Robert McArthur.

That leaves five last-eight places up for grabs, and almost all the pairings in the competition still in with a decent chance of grabbing them.

The final qualifying round takes place on February 15.
