Golf: holder heads Rothesay championship charge

HOLDER Graham Bolton leads the list of contenders for the Rothesay club championship after shooting a superb eight-under-par total of 130 in Sunday’s 36-hole qualifying round.

Bolton began the day with a four-under-par 65, and returned the same score after lunch to finish eight shots ahead of second-placed George Reynolds, who also posted matching morning and afternoon scores, in his case returning two level par rounds of 69.

Meanwhile, Liz McMillan occupies the number one spot in the battle for the ladies’ club championship at Rothesay after scores of 80 and 90 in the two qualifying rounds.
