Club greenkeeper Bobby Speirs (15) won the latest round of Bute Golf Club’s Stephen Thomas Financial Services Winter League at Kingarth on Saturday with a total of 41 points from a scratch 78 (39+39), the third time he has returned that stableford score this winter.

Overall league leader Andy Docherty finished in second place, also on 41 points, but missed out on the top spot because of a poorer inward half.

The best scratch score of the day was Graham Bolton’s 67, comprising halves of 33 and 34, five ahead of Graham McArthur.

With two rounds of the competition remaining, Docherty is seven points ahead of Robert McKirdy and Richie More at the top of the overall standings.
