ANDY DOCHERTY was in a league of his own on Saturday as he played the round of his life over an unforgiving Kingarth course in the second round of the challenge for the McArthur Cup.
The 12-handicapper produced his best-ever golf score with level-par 68 for 48 stableford points as he surged to an early lead in Bute Golf Club’s Winter League series, sponsored by Stephen Thomas Financial Services.
While other competitors struggled to come to terms with a chilling fresh wind, rain, and challenging pin positions, Docherty positively revelled in the difficult conditions.
He raced to the turn in two-under-par 32 with birdies at the third, seventh and eighth ... then steady play on the back nine saw him safely home in 36 to finish a staggering 11 points clear of his nearest rival.
The stellar performance brought an immediate penalty as his handicap was cut by three shots to nine!
