The busiest two weekends of the year are fast approaching at Rothesay Golf Club, with many of the club’s biggest annual competitions taking place over the next eleven days.
The Bennie Trophy - an 18-hole scratch tournament in which players compete for a trophy presented in the 1930s by George Bennie, inventor of the innovative, though ill-fated, ‘Bennie Railplane’ near Glasgow - will be played this Saturday, August 2, with sponsorship from Cowal Building and Plumbing Supplies.
The Bennie Trophy competition will be followed on Sunday, August 3, by the Wee Bennie, sponsored by Gerry McGuigan.
Then, on Friday, August 8, it’s the club’s Senior Open, sponsored by George Hanson Building Contractors, swiftly followed on August 9 by the McLean Cup, sponsored by another local firm, Mackirdy Haulage.
On top of that, Rothesay’s annual junior open was played on Wednesday - report to follow.
