Alex Francis celebrated his first ever silverware success this week after what he described as “the round of my life” in Bute Golf Club’s St Blane’s Trophy competition.
It was the first time the 20-handicapper had managed to keep a six off his card as he scored net 59 for a memorable four-shot victory on Saturday.
A delighted Francis, whose handicap has been cut to 18, attributed his win to the acquisition of a new driver, which eliminated wayward tee shots from his game.
He explained: “I was able to keep the ball in play and, for a change, managed to avoid running up the odd eight.””
The highlight of his round was a birdie two at the 12th, where he holed from 14 feet after an excellent tee shot into the strong southerly wind.
