Heavy snow on Bute and throughout south-west Scotland has begun to take its toll on the island’s sport fixture list for this weekend.
Bute YFC’s under-16 league game at home to Shawbridge on Saturday has been postponed due to the snow, which is expected to continue until the early hours of tomorrow, with continuing low temperatures leaving little prospect of the pitch at the public park in Rothesay being playable.
In addition, Rothesay Golf Club’s away day to Machrihanish on Saturday has also been cancelled after the snow left much of Kintyre covered in a blanket of white.
The weather has also left this weekend’s Bute shinty fixture list in some doubt - the club’s first team are due to travel to Strachur, while the second team have a home match against Glasgow Mid Argyll at the Meadows, although at the time this article was published there seemed little prospect of either game going ahead.
On the football front, Rothesay Brandane are already idle this weekend after the Caledonian League fixture list handed them a free week.
