League leaders Thorn Athletic proved far too strong for Rothesay Brandane on Saturday as the islanders’ winless Caledonian League run was extended to a ninth game.
The early stages of the game were relatively even, but once Dean Scott gave the visitors the lead in the 17th minute it was always going to be an uphill struggle for the inexperienced Brandanes, and Paul Young’s stunning free kick doubled Thorn’s advantage seven minutes later.
Craig McMahon and Donald Morrison added two more in the final ten minutes of the first half, and though the Rothesay men tightened up at the back after the interval they were unable to prevent Jordan Devine scoring twice in six minutes to earn the away side a comprehensive 6-0 victory.
