The dust may barely have settled on Rothesay Brandane’s 2013-14 Caledonian League campaign - but the island side’s new season is already beginning to take shape.
Five new teams will play in the ‘Caley’ set-up for the first time when the 2014-15 season gets under way in August, and with that in mind, proposals for league reconstruction were approved at the organisation’s AGM this week.
The change involves the Caledonian League’s first division - in which the Danes finished fifth last season - being split into two, Division 1A and Division 1B, with one promotion place up for grabs from each division into the top flight.
The Brandanes will play in Division 1B, alongside Hamilton FP, Milngavie Wanderers, Rhu, Viewfield Rovers, Weir Recreation, Cambria (relegated from the Premier Division) and new members Myre Athletic and Castlemilk.
Division 1A comprises Balmore, Bearsden, Cumbernauld Colts, East Kilbride YM, Symington Tinto, Cambusbarron Rovers (relegated from the Premier Division) and the league’s other three new members, Broomhouse, Overtown Thistle and Rannoch.
The reorganisation means the Brandanes will play only 16 league games in 2014-15 - ten fewer than last season - and with that in mind, the Danes have re-entered the sectional League Cup competition, which will kick off the new campaign, for the first time in several years.
The Rothesay men have been drawn in Section 8 of the tournament, alongside last season’s Premier League runners-up Milton, new First Division champions Dalziel HSFP, and Symington Tinto, who finished at the bottom of last season’s First Division with only five points to their name.
The Danes’ provisional League Cup fixture list is as follows: Aug 16 v Dalziel HSFP (h); Aug 23 v Milton (a); Aug 30 v Symington Tinto (a).
