Bute Youth Football Coaching will host a football tournament this weekend, with two mainland teams making a trip across the water for the event.
BYFC coach Roddie Leith told us: “At Bute Youth Football Coaching we coach kids from P1 right through to S6, and although we can only commit to one team in league football, over the last five years we have tried to have as many friendlies for the other age groups as time allows.
“Following our Giffnock tournament three years ago at Rothesay Joint Campus, when over 100 kids competed in a tournament, and more recently our International tournament last summer when ex-resident ‘Jingles’ McDonald brought a team all the way from New York, we have decided to host a tournament this Sunday (April 28) for the under 13s, against opposition from Erskine and our good friends at Giffnock.”
The tournament will consist of two games of two 20 minute halves for each team, when after that the top two teams will go through to a final.
All games will take part on the stadium pitch with stalls and refreshments from the PTA. Jinty’s ice cream van will also be there with treats and refreshments on offer.
“Let’s get the stadium full to the rafters; please get behind another group of BYFC kids, the same as we do with the under 16s,” Roddie said.
The stadium is booked from 10am till 4pm, with the first kick-off being around noon.
There will also be a penalty kick competition for the three teams involved, featuring BYFC’s under 16s keeper Ryan Leitch.
All are invited to take part in what will certainly be a great family day.
