Rothesay took full advantage of a home tie in the first match of this year’s Bute Seniors League in posting a 3 ½ - ½ win over Port Bannatyne.
Wet conditions underfoot, combined with near gale-force winds saw the Canada Hill course playing to its full length.
Drivers as the club of choice at the par 3 13th and the par 4 17th out of reach in 2 shots were symptomatic of the challenge facing the Seniors.
The after-match chat saw the Port in some awe and not a little regret at Billy Leckie’s short game wizardry and Tommy Duncan’s dead-eye putting.
With another home tie to follow against Bute (what fool devised this fixture list?), Rothesay have been installed as short-priced favourites to do a Leicester.
