An outward-half score of level-par 34 set David Bryden up for victory in the fourth round of the Winter League at Bute Golf Club on Saturday.
The 11-handicapper birdied the ninth hole to offset a dropped shot at the sixth for a stableford tally of 24 points -- and he kept it going on the back nine to finish with an overall score of 43 points.
John McBride (10) was edged into runner-up spot with a total of 42 points after a fine round which included birdies at the seventh and 18th holes.
Sandy Long (24) also produced his best performance of the tournament to finish in third place on 41 points having twice recorded pars at the difficult par-three sixth hole.
The other leading scorers were Jim Thom (10) on 39 points, Richie Smith (17) 38, Graeme Connor (13) and Peter Martin (26), both 37, and Leighton Thomas (9) 36.
The competition scratch score was 64 (40 stableford points).
The tournament, with the best eight scores counting, is sponsored by Stephen Thomas of Optimize Financial Solutions, Ltd.
New players are still welcome to join the competition which continues on Saturday with the usual 8.30am ballot at the clubhouse.
