John McBride takes a one-shot lead into the second round of the Sir Harry Hope Cup at Bute Golf Club on Saturday.
A solid score of gross 76 for net 64 in the opening round at the weekend gives the 12-handicapper a narrow advantage in the stroke-play tournament in which the best two returns from three count.
The trio of Steven Neilson (17), Pat McDonald (20), and Graham McArthur (7) is hard on his heels after all three finished on net 65.
Other leading scorers were Jim Thom (11) 69 and David Bryden (11) on 70 which included the only two of the day at the 12th hole.
The competition scratch score was 64.
The tournament continues on Saturday with the usual 8.30am ballot at the clubhouse.
