LEAGUE leaders Kingarth 1 showed what could be their first sign of weakness this week when they lost part of a match for the first time this season.
Though the south end team maintained their overall unbeaten record, they lost the doubles section of their match with Struan 1, who thereby deprived Kingarth of the full three points for victory – and in turn earned the single point they desperately needed to take over third place in the league.
Mac’s 2, however, are in hot pursuit of the leaders – they narrowed the points gap to only three, and are now equal in frame difference, after a very respectable eight-frames-to-one win against Golfers 1.
On the bottom end of the scale the Palace Bar, who have not managed to win a match yet, won their doubles section on Thursday against Struan 2, stopping their opponents from just scrapping into third place by one point.
On a lighter note, both Margaret Macdonald and Carol McHardy have scored their first league wins, thereby entering the fray for the ladies’ individual prize.
In the battle for gents’ individual honours, six players are level on six wins each, and names will be published as soon as there’s a clear leader.
Ladies’ individual - Frankie Kerr and Edith McDonald (Palace Bar) both on 2 wins, Margaret Macdonald (Golfers 2) and Carol McHardy (Palace Bar) on one win each.
Under 21’s individual – in a correction to the previous notice, Sean Greer (Galatea) leads with five wins, with Shaun Kernaghan (Mac’s 1) and Marcus Allan (Kingarth 2) leading the chasing pack on three wins apiece.
