Yacht crew’s Rothesay Bay rescue story

Two crew-members of the yacht ‘Bravado’, who assisted in the rescue yesterday of two men whose yacht had capsized, popped into The Buteman office today to share their story.

Skipper John Morgan and Stewart May are members of the Scottish Police Recreation Association’s offshore sailing section and were taking part in a skills development course in Rothesay Bay when they were made aware of a vessel in the vicinity which was in trouble.

The crew - also consisting of Stephen Millett, Julie Mullen and Matt Webb - made their way to the boat named ‘Storm’ which had capsized and rescued the two men, who were on a sailing holiday at Tighnabruiach. As we reported yesterday, MV Bute was also called to assist and offered ‘Bravado’ shelter while the men were recovered from the water.

The rescued men - one from Cheshire and one from Stafford - were none the worse for their experience, and we’ve learned that their vessel was recovered and brought back into Rothesay.
