Nearly a hundred people joined forces on Bute to raise money for the fight against cancer on Saturday in the first Bute Fights Back event.
The brainchild of Rothesay resident and breast cancer survivor Kirsteen MacDonald, the event gave participants the choice of a walk or run over five or ten kilometres, with the 10km course running from Rothesay Joint Campus to Mount Stuart and the 5km course within the grounds of the historic house.
Participants were also able to choose the cancer charity they wanted to support, with nominated good causes including Macmillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research UK, Clic Sargent and Bute-based Calum’s Cabin.
After thanking those who took part in and helped to organise the event, Kirsteen said: “I’ve no idea how much money we’ve raised but I’m sure it’s going to be quite a bit. We’ve had a fantastic day.”
* We’ll have a fantastic spread of Bute Fights Back pictures in the next issue of The Buteman, on sale from Thursday, August 22 - don’t miss it!
