An extension of the recycling service available in some parts of Rothesay is to be the subject of a 12-week trial.
Households in the Bush, Serpentine, Minister’s Brae, Glebelands and Mountpleasant areas received new dark green recycling bags on Thursday which will enable Fyne Futures to collect a much wider range of plastics than was previously the case.
The new trial will apply over the next six collections, until Thursday, November 19, with the results to be used by Fyne Futures to assess the viability of the extended service.
Along with a new dark green recycling bag, each household in the trial area also received a leaflet with full details of the types of plastics which can and cannot be accepted for recycling.
The extended service is part of plans for a Zero Waste Bute initiative on the island under the auspices of Fyne Futures, the ‘sustainability’ arm of Rothesay-based housing association Fyne Homes.
The new items will continue to be collected on the same dates as the normal recycling service in the trial area.
