SLIDESHOW: Stand Up To Cancer gathers pace on Bute

The Stand Up To Cancer campaign on Bute is well under way ahead of the island’s second Big Bute Photocall next month.

So far we’ve received a dozen pictures taken at workplaces and meetings of clubs and other organisations around the island, all lending their support to the Cancer Research UK initiative.

It’s all leading up to a giant photocall in Guildford Square in the centre of Rothesay on Friday, October 4, which organisers hope will see an even bigger turnout than last year - all you need to do is turn up at the square at 12 noon on the day and donate £1 to the cause, or whatever you can afford.

In addition to the big and small photocalls, there’s also a sponsored wax for brave Bute gents at the CRUK Rothesay shop on Thursday, October 3 and, for ladies, a ‘pampered chef’ night at Kingarth Hotel on Wednesday, October 23.

Bute Rugby Club, whose new kit features the logo of Cancer Research UK, is also supporting the campaign - several players have already volunteered for the October 3 waxing session, while player and club webmaster Sam Lawrie is also undergoing a ‘sponsored slim’ to give the cause a further boost.

Stand Up To Cancer funds translational research which is specifically designed to have an impact within just three years, by working to turn breakthroughs in the lab into breakthroughs in our hospitals.
