The school roll at Rothesay Academy has fallen by almost 25 per cent in the last five years, according to new figures.
A total of 281 pupils are enrolled at Bute’s only secondary school in the current session - a fall of more than six per cent on the 2014-15 figure of exactly three hundred, and a decline of 24.05 per cent since 2011-12.
The school roll statistics appear in a report on the Academy’s performance, to be presented to members of Argyll and Bute Council’s Bute and Cowal area committee this Tuesday, April 5.
The numbers reflect the continuing decline in the population of Bute as a whole; the number of people living on the island fell by more than ten per cent (from 7,228 to 6,498) during the last census period, from 2001 to 2011.
