Public says ‘no’ to Rothesay prom parking

BUTE has delivered a resounding thumbs down to the idea of formally allowing vehicles to park on the Rothesay promenade.

A survey of local opinion carried out by Bute Community Council (BCC) over the last few weeks has recorded overwhelming opposition to the idea.

BCC secretary Peter Wallace told the organisation’s monthly meeting on Wednesday that the survey had attracted 617 responses; of those, 108 (17.5 per cent) were in favour of the idea and 509 (82.5 per cent) were opposed.

As a result of the huge majority against the idea, BCC’s plans to hold a public meeting on the subject have been scrapped.

The community council will instead write to Argyll and Bute Council asking that steps to bring in a bye-law banning parking on the prom be brought forward as soon as possible.
