Bute residents have been warned they may not always be able to secure an early appointment with their GP due to a shortage of family doctors on the island.
Resignations and retirements have left the Bute Practice at Rothesay Health Centre short of four GPs - and though two replacements have been successfully recruited, and one will start work in April, the other will not take up their new post until August.
Attempts to fill the other two vacancies are ongoing, but have not been helped by the nationwide shortage of GPs.
Practice manager Graham Bolton told The Buteman: “There are times when we may be short of appointments for those reasons, and because doctors are providing out-of-hours emergency cover at the Victoria Hospital.
“We want to make sure those who really need to be seen at the practice are seen, and at times we may have to take emergency appointments only.
“We appreciate this may be frustrating for some people but no-one is more frustrated than us.”
