Family butchers Macqueens of Rothesay secured a hat-trick of accolades in the Scottish Craft Butchers Haggis Products Awards (SCB) 2019.
The shop picked up a Gold Award for its mini haggis and sweet mash pie. Macqueens also secured two Silver Awards - for its blaggis and chilli haggis and peppers.
Delighted owner David Macqueen said he was thrilled his combination of haggis, cream and sweet potato mash in a handcrafted pastry lattice-topped pie had proved a winner with the judges.
He said: “Mini pies are always popular but they are very time-consuming to make. We decided to revive the idea and create a haggis-based version for the SCB evaluations and it’s struck gold for us. It’s a real feather in our cap.”
Silver-awarded Blaggis is a haggis and black pudding combination in a breadcrumb crust, while the chilli haggis and peppers offers customers a haggis-based chilli stuffed into roasted peppers topped with mozzarella.
Macqueens of Rothesay was one of around 60 butchers from all over Scotland who submitted a wide variety of handcrafted products which were judged blind in one of the industry’s most keenly contested awards.
Douglas Scott, chief executive of Scottish Craft Butchers, said“Scotland’s butchers have risen to that challenge magnificently and shown the versatility of haggis.
“Judges were impressed by just how novel some of the highly rated products were and they will, without a doubt, see haggis on the menu for many households throughout this entire year.
“The Scottish Craft Butchers evaluation drives up standards year after year in a variety of different products, all to the benefit of the customer.
“Awards are not given out lightly. Every one of the butchers recognised can be rightly proud of their products and their customers can purchase with high expectations of great taste.
“These awards show customers just what a high standard their local butcher sets.”
