Rehearsals for this year’s Bute pantomime, the Bute Amateur Players’ version of Aladdin, are coming on apace, with just a fortnight to go until the first performance.
We had a sneak peek behind the scenes of the rehearsals this week and found that as well as rehearsals going well, the cast are having a whale of a time practising for their performances on December 21 and 22.
The main cast members, in order of appearance, are as follows: Gary Hawell (Abanazer, the wicked magician), Silvana Hawell (the Genie of the Ring and Abanazer’s assistant), Julie Marchant (Widow Twankey), Rosemary Lonie and Fiona Hawke (the Maids of Bute), Lauren Beau Stirling (Aladdin), Daniel Sweet (Wishee Washee), Graeme Allan (Hi-Heid-Yin, the Emperor), Kaya Dobosz (Princess Jasmine), Sophie-Jayne McKellar (So-Shy), Irene McGregor (Dragonara, the Emperor’s evil sister), plus Reece McNeil and Milo Alcorn as the local constabulary, Conor MacDonald as the Genie of the Lamp and Rebecca Hawke as the snake charmer.
Pupils from the local dance schools run by Anne McIlroy and Sam Kean are also involved, as are members of the Rothesay and District Juvenile Pipe Band.
It promises to be a memorable production - for ticket information contact Rothesay Pavilion on (01700) 504250 or see the ad in tomorrow’s Buteman.
