Pupils from North Bute Primary School are inviting the island community to a tree-planting ceremony later this month to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The ceremony will take place at the former St Ninian’s Church, on Shore Road in Port Bannatyne, on Thursday, April 21 at 2pm.

Although the church has been closed since 2006, he site has been chosen because it’s the same place pupils from the school planted a tree to mark the Queen’s 60th birthday back in 1986.

Sadly that tree was blown down in a storm in 1992 - but today’s North Bute pupils are hoping that as many members of the public as possible will come along to watch the planting of its replacement, a beautiful beech tree donated by the Rotary Club of Rothesay.

Make a note in your diary now - we’ll see you there!
