Mike MacKenzie MSP, Highlands and Islands SNP, has welcomed the announcement by Environment Secretary, Richard Lochhead, of a one-stop-shop to help businesses and the public sector use energy, water and raw materials more efficiently.
The Scottish Government’s Resource Efficient Scotland programme brings together expertise on managing energy, water and materials costs into a single service for the first time. It is believed this will make it easier for Scottish organisations and businesses, particularly smaller firms, to operate more efficiently and get more value from the resources they do use.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr MacKenzie, a member of the Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee, said: “I am delighted at this pragmatic approach which will greatly assist businesses to become more resource efficient and therefore competitive.
“Especially as the launch of the Resource Efficient Scotland programme comes on the same day the Scottish Government announces the introduction of its Landfill Tax Bill to the Scottish Parliament which is another important step in cutting waste and ensuring Scotland uses resources wisely.”
