Argyll and Bute MP Alan Reid says he is “horrified” at the scale of the cuts contained in Argyll and Bute Council’s 2013-14 budget.
In a letter to be published in this week’s issue of The Buteman, Mr Reid says the only reason he can think of for the cuts is to enable the SNP, the largest group in the council’s ruling coalition, to build up a ‘war chest’ to enable the party to cut council tax just before the next election.
“These cuts are not necessary,” Mr Reid says in his letter. “No other council in Scotland is cutting on this scale.
“This SNP budget is horrific. I appeal to them to think again.”
