The number of jobseekers in Argyll and Bute has fallen significantly according to the latest official figures.
The total number of claimants in the area in February was 955 - a drop of 11 per cent in the same month in 2015.
According to statistics compiled for the Department of Work and Pensions, the number of jobseekers in the area has fallen by 50 per cent in the last six years, with 958 fewer people claiming the benefit compared to February 2010.
A spokesperson for the DWP said: “The 11 per cent reduction on February 2015 is a fairly significant one - there is definitely an increase in the number of private sector jobs in Argyll and Bute and a much more positive approach towards employment in the area.”
Detailed figures have not been provided for the number of claimants on Bute itself, though we’ve asked for the local figures and will publish them if and when they’re released.
