“Agree to keep the peace”. That’s the secret to 50 years of marriage according to Angus and Jean McEwan, who celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary with a meal at Kingarth Hotel on Friday evening with their family.

The couple first met when both were working at Rothesay Pavilion - Jean in the women’s cloak-room, Angus in the men’s - and the pair would often be required to take to the dance floor at the start of the night to encourage other couples to dance.

Angus and Jean married in the Royal Hotel on March 14, 1963, and to mark the occasion 50 years on, Bute councillor Robert Macintyre presented the couple with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of Argyll and Bute Council.
