A Rothesay resident was presented with Germany’s second-highest military honour at a ceremony in Leith recenly.
Alisdair Johnston, who retired last autumn after 32 years’ service in the Army, during which he reached the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, was presented with the ‘Honour Cross in Silver’ by the German Defence Attache, Brigadier General Martin Hein, on board the Federal German vessel ‘Gorch Fock’, a handsome sail training ship.
The award was presented as a result of Alisdair’s last tour of duty, with the German Armed Forces’ Staff College in Hamburg.
