A former Rothesay Academy pupil and past member of the Scottish Youth Parliament is among the young people hoping for success at the ‘AB Awards’ in Oban next week.
David McLaughlin has been nominated for the ‘citizenship award’ at the ceremony, celebrating achievement by young people across Argyll and Bute, as a result of his work as an MSYP and locally with the Bute Youth Forum.
David, who is curerntly working in the care sector on Bute, said: “I’m a former chair of the Bute Youth Forum and managed to secure £7,000 in funding for the organisation over three years from 2011, and although I’m no longer the chair I still advise them on various issues.”
During his two years as an SYP member David was elected on to the organisation’s board of trustees and was involved in various campaigns, including spreading voter awareness among young people and increasing the profile of the country’s young carers.
