At Bute Community Council’s meeting last night in Port Bannatyne Village Hall, community councillor Iain Gillespie enquired as to whether there had been any developments with regard to fishing on Rothesay pier, following the restrictions which had been imposed there in July after a ferry crewman was allegedly injured.

Councillor Robert Macintyre said that he’d recently been in touch with Shirley MacLeod from Argyll and Bute Council regarding the petition – which was submitted to the council in September with over 300 signatures – and that the matter will be dealt with at the Rothesay meeting of the Bute and Cowal Area Committee in December.

Martin Gorringe, marine and airports manager with Argyll and Bute Council, will be at the meeting to present the reasons for the restrictions at the pier, and Cllr Macintyre also stated that Roger Browning – the angler behind the petition – has been invited to attend.
