The success of attempts to cut Bute’s carbon footprint is to be measured later this month.

Towards Zero Carbon Bute has appointed JRL Consultants to compile a report which will evaluate progress made in energy efficiency, renewable energy installations, re-use and recycling, the provision of local produce, the use of low-carbon transport and ‘active travel’, and the return on social investments such as health, wellbeing, skills development and employment.

Two members of staff from JRL Consultants will be on Bute from August 12-16 to learn about the work of TZCB - a subsidiary of Fyne Futures, the ‘sustainable development’ arm of local housing association Fyne Homes - and to speak to members of the public about the impact of TZCB’s work since the initiative was set up in 2009.

They’ll be present at Fyne Futures’ stand at the Bute Agricultural Society show on Wednesday, August 14, and will hold a drop-in event at TZCB’s offices at 7 Castle Street, Rothesay on Thursday, August 15 between 10am and 12 noon.
