A DATE has been set for this year’s visit to Rothesay by two judges from the Beautiful Scotland campaign.
Kate Stevenson and Lorna Much, who are both heavily involved in the Perth in Bloom campaign, will arrive on the island on the 11am ferry from Wemyss Bay on Thursday, August 2, and their three-hour judging tour will begin at 12 noon.
This year’s judges - neither of whom have assessed Rothesay’s entry in the annual competition in the past, although both attended the 2011 awards ceremony at the Pavilion - will follow the same route as last year’s Britain in Bloom judging tour.
The scoring for the 2012 Beautiful Scotland awards has changed this year and is now in line with the Britain in Bloom scheme, which awards 50 per cent of all the available marks to the quality of horticultural presentation, so the team behind the Rothesay entry are keen to encourage floral displays, however small, outside both retail premises and household gardens on the judges’ tour.
Rothesay’s capture of the top Beautiful Scotland award - the Rosebowl - in 2010 earned the town the right to host the 2011 awards ceremony, which took place on a wild and windy day last September.
