John McGhee resigned as both chairman and a director of Bute Community Land Company at a meeting of the organisation’s board this week.
Mr McGhee had been involved with the attempt to secure a community buy-out of the Rhubodach forest at the north end of the island since before BCLC was officially formed in 2009.
He told The Buteman he had made the “reluctant” decision in order to devote more time to his day job as a QC in London and his other role on the island as chair of VisitBute.
“I’m absolutely 110 per cent committed to doing all I can to regenerate the island,” Mr McGhee said, “but there are only so many hours in the day, and I’ve had to think about how best to deal with all my conflicting commitments and how to make the best use of my time.”
