The new head teacher at Rothesay Joint Campus has spoken to The Buteman about her first impressions of the school, and the island.
Patricia McCurrach, who took up the job in October, was previously a depute head teacher at Lesmahagow High School in South Lanarkshire - and in fact has spent her entire teaching career in schools based in rural areas.
“It’s a big shift for me to move to a school that’s 3-18,” she continued.
“Certainly it’s a happy place - the children are happy and settled, they’re very willing to tell you about their news and their information, and there’s good learning and teaching taking place.
“One of the things that struck me is the range of opportunities that the pupils have - I’ve been amazed at the number of things they get involved in and go to. The dedication of the school staff in taking the number of school trips they take is fantastic.”
