Pupils of Rothesay Primary had a real treat on Tuesday when a team from Owl Magic, based in Kilmarnock, brought along ten of their feathered friends to the school.
The concept for the company came about when Davie Morrison decided to take his love and enthusiasm for owls further by undergoing a training course in the handling and rearing of birds of prey. Owl Magic has grown from just one bird, a Barn Owl named Cuddles, to now being home to 30 different species of owl.
Accompanied by handler Tracey, Davie spoke to the children about each of the stunning birds he’d brought along, ranging from Bailley, an enormous Turkmenian Eagle Owl, to the very appropriately named Titch, a Ferruginous Pygmy Owl.
After a quick lesson in handling techniques, the children - and some of the staff - were allowed to hold an owl, with those who weren’t quite as brave opting to have a pet of the bird instead.
