Former Rothesay pupil is new Lockerbie head

A former pupil at Rothesay Academy will take up his first head teacher’s post when the new school term begins on January 6.

Brian Asher was appointed as head teacher of Lockerbie Academy in Dumfries and Galloway in succession to Graham Herbert, who retired in December after 18 years in the post.

Mr Asher is also following a path from Rothesay to Lockerbie previously trodden by Andrew Blake, an ex-Academy maths teacher who was head teacher at Lockerbie 25 years ago, when the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 thrust the quiet town into the global spotlight.
