The deadline for responses to a plan to shut Rothesay Sheriff Court is the end of this week.
The Scottish Courts Service has proposed shutting the court and transferring all Bute’s civil and criminal business to Greenock in a move which would reduce its spending by just £6,000 a year.
But opponents of the plan say the forecast saving would be more than wiped out by the additional costs of having those involved in a case travelling to and from Greenock, while the closure would stretch police resources and lead to a greater risk of disorder in the event of the two sides in a case sharing a ferry and bus journey from Rothesay.
The deadline for responses to the SCS consultation ‘Shaping Scotland’s Court Structures’ is this Friday, December 21, at 12 noon.
