COUNCILLORS have voted to begin statutory consultation on a proposal to close North Bute Primary School in Port Bannatyne.
At a marathon meeting of Argyll and Bute Council in Lochgilphead on Tuesday, the authority’s members backed a proposal to formally begin consultation on a plan which would see the school close at the end of the 2011 Christmas term, with pupils moving to the primary department of Rothesay Joint Campus from January 2012.
Bute’s two opposition councillors, SNP members Robert Macintyre and Isobel Strong, supported an amendment which would have taken North Bute out of the consultation process.
Independent Len Scoullar voted in favour of proceeding with formal consultation.
