St Andrew’s Church will be marking a very special occasion in the church’s long history on Bute - its 150th anniversary - and all on Bute are invited to join in the celebrations.
The parish will be honouring all those who have participated in the life of the church throughout these 150 years right, up to the present day.
There will be Mass at St Andrew’s Church on St Andrew’s Day, November 30, at 6.30pm, (with two bishops, Canon Iain, Fr Andrew, Fr Sandy etc.,) and a celebration refreshment in St Andrew’s Hall thereafter.
There will be a Lecture delivered by Mr John McCallum in St Andrew’s Hall on December 1 at 7.30pm - everyone is welcome.
A Sesquicentennial booklet has also been produced, for sale soon, with contributions from Rev Owain Jones, Fr Andrew Barrett, Bishop Joseph Toal, Bishop Brian McGee, Mr Harry Thomson, Mrs Ellen Canning, and photos by Martin Dougan.
Father Michael Hutson said: “I hope our reflection on the past will be a catalyst to strengthen our resolve, with people of different faiths and people of none, to participate more sincerely in God’s kingdom of holiness and grace, mercy and hope, justice, love and peace.
“Almost everyone on Bute will have had some connection to St Andrew’s parish over the years. Perhaps you worship with us regularly, or you’re maybe taking a break! Perhaps we provided you with prayers at a friend’s funeral, ecumenical event or family occasion. You are part of our parish community. Share our pride, share our joy. As we celebrate our 150th anniversary, be assured that we will include all the people of Bute in our prayers.”
