An organisation which provides support and financial advice to island residents has been given a funding boost from Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland.

Bute Advice Centre, which operates from its base in Bishop Street, has been granted £4000 towards the salary of the manager, which is held by Julie Semple, enabling the charity to continue offering help and support to Bute residents.

The charity is one of three organisations in Argyll and Bute to have received a share of £150,000 which is being distributed between 33 groups across Scotland, bringing the total awarded by the Foundation to almost £1.7m so far this year.

Mary Craig OBE, Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, said: “From paying for toys for a new babies and toddler group to funding a dementia support programme and helping pay for respite breaks for young carers, all these awards through our Henry Duncan Programme will be used to help improve the lives of disadvantaged people across Scotland.

“Local charities make a massive difference in the communities where they work, and 22 of the awards will be used to help pay for staff to deliver vital work across Scotland.

“This funding will help bring security not only for the staff but for the people who use the services they provide, and that continuity is extremely important.”
