Bute Ladies Sport was named ‘Club of the Year’ in this year’s Argyll and Bute Sport Awards on Friday.
Argyll and Bute Council teamed up with sportscotland to host the awards and pay tribute to all the unsung local sporting heroes across the area.
Facing competition from eight other groups in the category, including two Bute clubs - Bute Junior Shinty and Bute Shinty Club - Bute Ladies Sport took the accolade.
At Friday’s announcement of the award winners, Councillor Roddy McCuish said: “Bute Ladies Sport was established by volunteer Suzi Jackson, with an attendance of over 30 each week.
“It’s a lifeline to ladies of all ages who wish to play team sport both to keep fit and to socialise with a friendly and enjoyable group. The island of Bute had no sports groups for ladies and that was an area that needed to be addressed.
“The club is fairly new and is going from strength to strength. The coaches are looking at entering competitions to encourage the players to the next level of hockey and netball.
“They are also actively looking at other sports to introduce to their club.”
Bute Ladies Sport currently meets on a weekly basis at Rothesay Joint Campus, and women of all ages and abilities will be made very welcome. To find out more about the club search for Bute Ladies Sport on Facebook.
