An international textiles consultant who moved to Bute last year says the island is the perfect base for his business.
Jim Findlay has established a technical textile consultancy on the island and says the perception of Bute as a remote, isolated, out-of-the-way place is well wide of the mark.
Jim recently returned from a major two-day work assignment near Rome with the European Textile Service Association (ETSA) - and, thanks in part to the arrival on the island of high-speed fibre broadband, was able to carry out all the preparation work for the meeting from his home.
“Because of the significant infrastructure no effort or long term planning is required to visit or stay,” he said.
“Even the transport infrastructure worked well – it is possible to leave Bute just after breakfast using public transport and reach Rome in time for dinner with clients.”
