Rothesay’s Cancer Research UK charity shop is number one in the whole of Britain - again! - in terms of donations to the Stand Up To Cancer campaign.
Shop manager Anna Harrison told us this week that the amount raised through the local CRUK team’s activities for Stand Up To Cancer during October now stands at £6,440 - more than any other CRUK shop in the whole of Britain.
A Halloween fun day at the charity’s Montague Street shop raised a further £550, while a donation of £445 has been received from the Rivendell Tattoo Studio in Argyle Street, which held a Stand Up To Cancer fund-raiser on October 24.
Activities earlier in the month included a ‘living dolls’ mannequin display, two car wash events, a partnership with the Ettrick Bay Tearoom which saw a donation of 40p from every pudding sold, an end-of-term activities day at Rothesay Joint Campus, and, most memorably of all, the island’s biggest photocall of the year in Guildford Square, when local supporters gathered in the shape of the Stand Up To Cancer logo for a picture taken by a ‘quadcopter’ flying camera.
“It gets harder every year to top what we’ve done before,” Anna said, “but Bute is such a generous community and the people here keep on amazing us with their support.”
Stand Up To Cancer still has a few more days to run, so any more donations to keep Bute at the top of the tree will be gratefully received at the shop in Montague Street!
