Local charities Achievement Bute and Beachwatch Bute teamed up this week for a school holiday clean-up at the island’s most popular beach.
Schoolchildren from around the island gathered to revisit their ‘Art Ashore’ project from Easter 2014 - a week-long initiative gathering litter from the beach at Ettrick Bay and putting it inside a wire sculpture of a seal created by local artist Ruth Robertson.
The seal has remained in place ever since - and on Wednesday of this week a new collection of items washed ashore by the tide was gathered up and stuffed inside the sculpture, giving visitors to the beach a chance to see for themselves just how much work goes in to keeping Ettrick Bay in pristine condition.
Achievement Bute’s school holiday activities continued on Thursday with a day of ‘geocaching’ around the island, while this Friday features a spring clean of the garden behind the charity’s studio in Rothesay’s Castle Street - and next week there are three days of drama, art and science at Rothesay Joint Campus from April 15-17.
More from a busy Easter holiday activity programme for Achievement Bute in the next issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, April 16.
