The future of a project set up to help Bute’s most vulnerable elderly residents has been secured - until at least July of 2016.
Thanks to community fundraising and grants from organisations including For Bute and Artemis Asset Management, the Bute Elderly Befrienders scheme will be able to continue for at least the first seven months of the new year - and is already working on funding applications which would enable it to continue for a further year beyond that date.
The future of the service had been left in doubt after the failure of a bid to the Integrated Care Fund for Argyll and Bute which would have enabled the project to expand from three days a week to five.
Project co-ordinator Duncan MacLeod said: “I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the community of Bute for their overwhelming support and the personal efforts of some local fundraisers and businesses who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to help raise funds for Bute Befrienders.”
