The directors of VisitBute, the island’s tourism and marketing company, have appealed for ideas and assistance from their members as they bid to make a new start in promoting the island to potential visitors.
The company’s AGM on Wednesday heard that after a difficult period which saw seven directors resign, for a variety of reasons, in the space of a year, hopes were high of a fresh start.
And following an appeal in The Buteman, the meeting saw several suggestions from members for how the company might develop in the future.
Director Sophie Reid told the meeting at Rothesay Pavilion: “There are plenty of ideas here. We are all paying members of VisitBute, and it’s good to pay money and be a member, but can it be more than that? “We’re all responsible for our island. Forget everyone who is being negative about Bute. We care, because we run our businesses here. I know we’re all really busy, but there are things every one of us in this room can do.”
An appeal for help with administration and finance, social media interaction, running the VisitBute website and engaging with wider island issues also attracted several expressions of interest, with a further meeting to be held in the next few weeks to thrash out the direction of the company in more detail.
